EVENTS > PAST oito > CANVAS INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2024 - VENICE The perception of identity, both in its personal and its social manifestation, is a temporary reflection of an on-going negotiation between our self and what we choose to embrace and incorporate as "the other". The interactive character of this exchange anchors our meanings, shapes and underpins the reality we experience, defines the networks in which we participate, and undergirds our understanding of the world. With the notion of a "shared identity" as core to our life and activity and a keen interest in exploring the body beyond the strictures of physicality, oito participated in the CANVAS INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2024, section MIXING IDENTITIES. This collaboration was in the context of the oito FROM ART AND BEYOND venture. The CANVAS INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2024 was organised by the ITSLIQUID Group, in collaboration with the ACIT Venice (Italian - German Cultural Association). MIXING IDENTITIES, the second appointment of the venture, took place in Venice, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, from 11 to 25 October, 2024, as well as in other prestigious venues and historical buildings, during the 60th Venice Biennale of Art. The concept of MIXING IDENTITIES is based on the reconstruction of new identities: their transformation is essential to face the changes of the contemporary world. The process of building ourselves passes through the continuous relations with other people's identities and the identities of communities, cultures and societies. The event focuses on the human body as a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality, a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression. Artists are invited to analyse the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness. [FROM ART AND BEYOND is an ongoing venture that spreads across various exhibitions, presentations, explorations, and everyday life activities, with the aim of creating experiences that are relevant to the triggers of specific moments in time, enhancing to the meanings of the participants, and balanced on the thinking-feeling axis. In this light, the tools and methods of art, but also the artwork itself, are revisited and repurposed, embedded in a continuous process of self-(re)organisation and seen as vehicles for creating a meaningful reality. Conversely, the elements of manifested reality are read as indications of underlying structures, with which art may choose to interact in search of a new point of balance.] |
